Q + A: Janine Salinas Schoenberg

Janine Salinas Schoenberg is an emerging writer with an empathetic voice that speaks for the under represented. In her writing, she gamely explores the oft-overlooked landscape of faces in America: women, immigrants, and minority populations. A playwright, filmmaker and mother-to-be, Janine has been nominated for the coveted Wendy Wasserstein Prize, was selected to join the elite crop of women in AFI’s Women Directors Workshop, and was recently a MacDowell Fellow. I had the opportunity to talk to Janine about her journey as a writer and to find out about her new play, The Anatomy of Gazellas, which has its Los Angeles Premiere tonight, April 26, 2013, through the Playwrights’ Arena.

In this newfound role as a spinner of tall tales, Jenny has written a standing column for Playboy’s The Smoking Jacket, aptly titled ‘What She Said,’ and recently signed a book deal with St Martin’s Press for her collection of comedic essays entitled ‘I Like You Just The Way I Am.’

P.S. You Need a Password Manager

What single piece of technology could change your life in the New Year? There is a simple answer, but it’s best if I explain a little bit. We live online: banking, email, social networking, extra curricular activities, nearly everything we do has an online equivalent, which means a password will be needed to participate. Passwords are now a fact of life, particularly to life on-line. In an informal poll of my friends, not one person had a secure way to manage their passwords.

From the uplifting to the inane, internet videos can easily overwhelm the casual viewer, making said viewer feel like a blind captain navigating floating detritus in a sea of mediocrity.  Yet, we have all had that moment, when your BFF posts a link to YouTube on your Facebook page that instantly makes you feel like the internet was tailor made just for you.  That is the beauty of the internet; there is something for everyone.
