How to Workout in your Hotel Room
This year we’re introducing a new column: “Guide for Girls On-the-Go.” It’s a smattering of tips, tricks, secrets, and strategies we’ve picked up while living out of suitcases, working out of our cars, and spending life, well, on-the-go. We’ll be letting you in our own life-hacks and asking other girls on-the-go for their secrets so we can share them here with you. Be sure to let us know what else you’ve learned along the way, or ask any questions you might have, on Facebook, Twitter and in the comments below.
[dropcap2]’t[/dropcap2]is the time of year when resolutions are made and broken. Best laid plans, like shedding those holiday pounds that so easily found their way into your winter wardrobe, are easily brushed aside when life, or rather work calls: A conference in Vegas, clients in Chicago, a company retreat in Tuscon. Living out of a suitcase really puts a cramp in your workout regime. No one wants to run into their boss while sweating like a pig on the stationary bike, and anyway, running hamster in the hotel gym just gets monotonous. That’s why you need Guidebook Lesson 1: How to work out in the comfort of your own hotel room.
Low Commitment
If your idea of a workout is taking the stairs, let technology be your guide. I’ve found a few apps that can get your heart rate up in a pinch.
Gorilla Workout ($.99) requires no special equipment and will cater to your fitness level. Most workouts take 15-30 minutes, so if you’re short on time, this is a great way to cram in your workout. It combines cardio and strength training to give you a well-rounded routine. It’s available on iPhone/iPad and Android devices.

Pocket Yoga ($2.99) allows you to set the length of your practice from 30-60 minutes, so your workout can be as flexible as your schedule. The app walks you through a Vinyasa practice of yoga for your own private yoga class. You can choose to follow their pre-assembled routines or mix and match poses to create your own custom yoga routine. Pocket Yoga is available on iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows 8 devices.
Variety Show
I get bored easily, so I miss the variety that classes offer when I’m on the road. I want to be able to do different workouts depending on my mood. Additionally, I enjoy being guided through a workout, knowing that I will get a full body workout, rather than trying to wing it on my own.
Luckily, if you have an internet connection, you can access all these classes on-demand on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
Yogis Anonymous is only $5 for a 24-hour pass or $15 for a month of unlimited classes. They have over 1000 yoga classes to choose from in many different time variations, as well as a myriad of skill levels. With so many classes to choose from, and classes being added all the time, you’ll never get bored with this workout.

Additionally, Physique 57, the renowned barre-workout that has been all the rage in New York and Los Angeles, offers their classes on-demand. You can buy classes a la carte starting at $5. This is how Fox sportscaster, Erin Andrews keeps in shape while she’s on the road! Check out Erin’s series of videos for Physique 57, or if you’re curious what their classes look like, here is a video from when Autumn and I took a class at Physique 57 in Beverly Hills.
